#6 seed OBI faces #3 seed Coyote Towing in Opening Round of Season 2 Tourney

Get ready for another fun run through the tourney as we begin our quest for back2back league titles on field #5 at 7:15pm this Thursday versus #3 seed Coyote Towing ... Here is the bracket ...

Getting Hot at the Right Time ,,,

8-5-1 One Bad Inning swept a double header with 6-8 Knuckle Babies with consistent offense and excellent defense on a large scale. The wins give OBI 6 in a row and 7 victories in the past 8 games.

Anticipation is high for a good seed in the tournament. Either we will be in the top half of a 16 team bracket or we will have earned a #6 or #7 seed (ML estimated) in the Top 8 bracket. Either way, we are entering the Season 2 tournament this week...

In Game 1, OBI scored in all but the 5th inning. This was needful as the Knuckle Babies are a solid offense team themselves. Down 2-4 after the 2nd, OBI put up 4 and then a 3 spot in the 3rd and 4th innings, respectively. Highlights were a Big Fly in both innings, first by DC and then Tino. Both HRs plated 3 runs.

The Knuckle Babies fought back and tied the score at 9 going to the 6th and final inning. Then, OBI opened up a can of whoop ass,,, ok, well, we scored a solid 5 runs in the top half of the inning. Nuta, Spillane, and Tino singles preceded an off the wall double by Stephen and a triple by Michael. The KBabies fought back with 2 of their own, however, sharp leather play overcame good raking ...

Game 2 started slowly with OBI leading after 1 by a count of 2-0. The KBabies had their one good inning for the night and scored 6 runs in the top of the second inning. Answering back by batting through the lineup, OBI put up a 10 spot and never looked back.

KC homered in the second to put OBI back in front and with 2 out, Spillane's inside the park Grand Slam essentially put the game away pushing the lead to 12-6. DC followed up in the 3rd inning with another Big Fly as the lead extended to 16-8.

Spillane followed up in the 4th inning with the 3rd HR of the game (as in over 300') to edge the score further towards a run rule at 18-9. However, with time running out, the game would finish just that way...

Stay tuned for the Season 2 Tourney schedule announcement in the next couple of days ...

Travesty of Softball Justice ...

In an all consuming fashion, Michael surreptitiously apologizes to all OBI teammates for my indiscriminate, neglectful, unfilled writings that thoroughly described all events that took place in last weeks contest versus McGlovin. I here to for, and not withstanding, do proclaim that a one Chris Nuta made a catch of his lifetime against the fence in deep left field on field #6, robbing the batter/runner of any opportunity of momentary or infamous glory.

I am told that this was a spectacular grab, alas, I pulled a Sgt. Schulz and saw Nothing! As always, I will continue to eloquently depict the happenings of our weekly exploits in this blog with perpituity and grace. Will leave no stone unturned to properly portray the story that unfolds between the lines. This one simply occurred outside the playing field as the ball had officially left the park for a brief second, but I digress.

Congrats on the catch, Nuta !!! Please note that we now expect this effort each and every time you step onto the battlefield at Victory Lane,,,, and Beyond !!!

One Bad Inning Takes DoubleHeader vs. McGlovin

6-6 McGlovin has been one of the top tier Thursday night teams over the past year. In a week where Wednesday night injuries caused both Clint and Matt to miss games, 6-5-1 OBI adjusted and played well enough to score two wins against a very good opponent.

This accomplishment was spearheaded by our defense. Not all the plays were made, but the needful ones were made at the right times. A few weeks ago, OBI took it on the chin when we scored a total of 11 runs (and 7 of those were in the final two inning of game 2). This week, it was OBI who upped their game and only allowed 12 runs to the high flying McGlovin offense ...

Game 1 started well as DC clubbed a top of the first inning Big Fly giving OBI an early 2-0 lead. The score remained 2-0 into the bottom of the third inning. A couple of defensive miscues led to 2 runs by opportunistic McGlovin,,, tied at 2 we were after 3 innings.

OBI went ahead for good, 3-2, when Steve's leadoff double led to a DC Sac Fly in the 5th inning. Jayse and Nuta led of the top of the 6th with singles setting up Larry's 2-RBI Triple. Newbie Tino kindly hit a Sac Fly to cap the scoring at 6-2 going to the bottom of the sixth.

McGlovin did not put up a fight until the bottom of the seventh and final inning. A few hits preceeded a 3-run Homer that pulled McGlovin with one at 5-6 ... With 2 out in the inning and the Tying run at third, Winning run on first,,, a line drive to Steve was knocked down, recovered, and decidedly thrown to KC at second base for the final out of the game... Whew !!! Thrilling, yet ,,, well,,, it was a win with not much offense,,, we will take it ...

Game 2 started much as the first game had,,, exception, Larry and Tino got the ball rolling. After Michael smacked a double off the second baseman's glove driving in Larry,,, DC clubbed a 3-run HR to jump OBI out to a 4-0 lead.

McGlovin scored 3 of their own in the top of the second. However, with one out in the bottom half, Nuta and J.R. got the ball rolling and OBI sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring 7 runs... Highlights were another 2-run Triple by Larry, doubles by Tino and Spillane, and back-to-back Home Runs by DC and KC !!!

In the bottom of the third, OBI extended its lead by scoring another 5 runs. More hitting by mostly everyone, whew,,, running out of superlatives here ... Okay,,, skipping forward to the bottom of the 5th, OBI narrowly holding onto a 16-7 lead with one Out and KC at the plate with DC on Second and Michael on Third,,,, KC hit a chopper to the SS and became the second out of the inning.

With the SS not paying attention to him,,, something Michael continues seeing a therapist about, Michael (also known as Dusty in some circles, but I digress) ,,, took off for home, sliding under the Catcher's tag to score the winning run. Well, Okay,,, the winning run as in the Run Rule was in effect at 17-7 ...

OBI is getting hot at the right time,,, the tournament is coming up April 17th ...

OBI Rakes Up First Sweep of Season 2, 2014

Mind you, there were some good defensive plays, and Larry pitched well, but the real story was One Bad Innings 35 runs scored in only 9 innings at bat. This is especially true considering just two weeks ago, OBI went 9 consecutive innings without scoring a single, solitary run. 'Nuff Said ...

Game 1 was a 17-7 victory where OBI produced the runs in 5 innings. After scoring 4 in each of the first 2 innings and building an 8-3 lead,,, OBI never looked back.

The fun started with Steve's 3 pitch Walk in the first and J.R.'s lead off Triple in the second inning. Six players had extra-base hits in the game and all but Larry reached base safely. Larry made some changes to his swing that looked positive (more on this later).

Michael and KC each collected 3 RBIs on 3 hits. This was an all around good, consistent hitting effort. Could OBI complete the night with another good game?

The Runnin' Fools offense scored 5 runs in the top of the first in Game 2. OBI struck back in the bottom half with 7 of their own, highlighted by a 3-run inside-the-park HR off Larry's bat (ding, ding!!).

The R'Fools kept up their pace and plated another nickel to take a 10-7 lead... OBI batted around for the second consecutive inning and did the same by scoring another touchdown (and extra point),,, regaining the lead 14-10. Whew! in only 2 innings WTH?!?!!!

Things were just heating up, folks... R'Fools tied it at 14 going into the 4th and final inning of Game 2 (darn clock wound down real fast, prolly due to all the running around the bases on the field) and then scored another 2 taking a 16-14 lead to the bottom half of the last inning.

Larry's new swing changes netted a leadoff Triple and he scored on Tino's single. Clint sandwiched a single between 2 outs. This brings us to DC, batting with the tying run on third, the Winning run on first,,, and there are two outs... Well, Casey at the Bat struck out... And OBI's DC, did Not !!!

One of the biggest weapons in baseball is the 3-Run Home Run... And that is exactly the cure for our ills this night... A walk-off Big Fly pushed the score to 18-16 and all is well in the world for one more week...

Excellent job OBI !!! Keep this up and more things will be written about you in a similar positive light. or Not !!!

It's Baaaaaack !!! For One Game ...

2-5-1 One Bad Inning's offense showed up for Game 1 leading the way for a 22-10 rout of AAA AZ. The 22 runs were twice as many as OBI scored the previous week and in the last 3 games total...

Our makeshift defense sufficed, holding AAA AZ to 19 runs in the two games. Unfortunately, OBI's offense took game 2 off as we only put up six runs in a 6-9 loss. Though, impressively we scored late and tied the game at 6 going into the final inning. Baby steps as it were ...

This weeks impressive performances were put up by most everyone in Game 1 and mostly no one in Game 2.

DC was 4-5 (7-8 overall) in Game 1 with 7 RBIs including a Big Fly in the 9 run top of the 7th inning that fueled the rout. KC had 6 hits on the night including a 4-4 effort in Game 1. Nuta bad hopped his way into a tie for the Home Run lead with his Inside-The-Parker to tie Game 2 late.

Clint and Jayse will return this week... However, no one has heard from Ryan since Week 1 and many of us are concerned. If you see or hear from him, let us know... Thanks...

This week, OBI takes on 1-7 Runnin' Fools on Field 3 at 815 & 915 ...
