OBI Turns Splitsville Into a Sweep ...

As out of body experiences go, last nights split doubleheader sweep of Skeleton Crew (12-6) and Mamma's Boy (18-7) was Awesomefull !!! Drink and Smoke were partaken in between games, but the OBIers showed up in fine fashion scoring 18 runs in the first three innings of Game 2.

But first,, Game 1 highlights,,, and lowlights... Leading 3-2 heading into the third inning, the visiting OBI squad raked it for 9 runs in the top half of the inning. Ryan started the inning (and went 5-5 on the night) and some wild and crazy hits and gifts were the big happening I tell ya...

Skeleton Crew dropped a 4 spot to close the gap to the tune of a 12-6 count after three... And the pitching duel was on... Both pitchers shut down (with the help of a rather swiss cheese like D) their opponents in the final 3 frames (thank you Larry)... Game over, 12-6 OBI win... Whew...

Game 2 was all about the bats... Inning 1 we saw Michael and KC get on base only to be driven in by 2-Run Big Flies off the bats of DC and Spillane. Both collected 5 RBIs and Steve even threw in 3 of his own.

OBI continues to hit and play defense very consistently. Folks are beginning to really take notice. Keep on keepin' on !!!

A Tale of Two Games ...

One Bad Inning tossed out the Consistency mantra this week and simply accepted the bad with the good. OBI lost Game 1 to Diamondback Pools (the old CADCON Drafting squad) 8-1 and then opened the flood gates in a 19-3 shellacking in Game 2...

The 19 runs were scored in only 4 innings during Game 2. What was most impressive is that the catalyst for the onslaught was the second half of the OBI batting order. JR and Nuta combined for 9 RBIs while Steve, Jayse, and Matt were on base to score these Runs.

The only negative I can take away from this weeks action,,, two more HRs for Outs... That gives us 5 for the season,,, ouchitty... The bright spot is that these have all been well struck fly balls and the offending batters have not simply been trying to take it out...

At 4-2 we are in good shape for the season... Let's keep up our winning ways ...

Consistency at Plate and On the Field Garners Double Header Sweep

One Bad Inning swept Midlife Crisis and Mammas Boys this past Thursday, 1/16. Both games were 5-inning run rules thanks to a consistent offense and defense (though our SS needs to use 2 hands to catch the ball at times) ...

Clint returned, after a week off to hack his lungs out,,, and helped the OBI offense get kick started with a 4 run home-half of the 1st in Game 1 versus Midlife Crisis. With the lead at 4-1 going into the bottom of the third, OBI opened with 4 hits and a BB on the way to tallying 6 more runs.

Midlife Crisis answered with 5 of their own in the top of the fourth but OBI took a 11-6 lead to the bottom half of the fifth. Jayse and Matt started the inning with a Double and Triple, respectively. And then with two outs, DC ended the game with a run-rule topping 3-Run HR for a 17-6 score...

Game 2 started in opposite fashion versus Mammas Boys. OBI put up an egg followed by MBs 3 spot in the bottom of the first. OBI answered back in the top of the second with JR and Nuta both reaching base,,, followed by 7 of the next 8 batters helping us score 8 runs while sending 12 to the plate.

Next, OBI bats around again in the third whilst scoring 6 runs. 8 of 11 batters reached base including the first six. Michael, DC, and KC all reached via Double during three consecutive at bats ...

Again, Consistency won out this week. Let's continue the trend as we meet the 4-0 Diamondback Pools squad next week on Field 1 in 8:15/9:15 games...

Sevec's Walk-Off Solo HR gives OBI Split with Warning Track Power in a 19-18 Thriller ...

OBI started slow against WTP again this season, taking it on the chin 9-19 in Game 1 last night. We did launch 5 HRs in the game, unfortunately, only 2 counted... DC and KC went back to back for HR Outs,,, then later, JR quit dipping and fired up his own HR Out swing...

Other than a seven run third inning, the OBI offense was fairly stagnant in Game 1.

Game 2 saw us jump out early, going up 14-5 after 3 innings of play. This included an 8 run inning in the third, highlighted by JR's 3-run bomb. All total, we homered 4 times in Game 2, making it 9 Big Flies for the night (an OBI record for 2014,, LOL) ...

Our 4-6 hitters (DC, KC, and Spillane) were 11-11 scoring 8 runs and driving in 10 on 3 doubles, a triple and 2 HRs.

But I digress,,, up 17-5 going to the top of the 5th inning, WTP scored an 8 spot to get back into the game. In the bottom of the 6th with two out, an 18-14 lead and less than 5 seconds to play, Chris Nuta struck out allowing WTP to bat in the top of the 7th (Ok, this isn't the only reason, just the most fun to write about). In the inning, the visitors were able to score 4 runs on a solo and finally a 3-run HR to tie the game at 18...

Steve Sevec then led off the bottom of the 7th inning with the shot heard round the world,, well, at least around Field 3,,, as he stroked a HR to RC field for our 9th and most timely Big Fly of the night ...

Following are the stats for Season 1, Week 1 ... In this case, also known as the YTD stats ;~) ...

OBI 2-1 in Season 6 Tourney Is Good For 5th Place ...

2013 finished up with a bang rather than the typical whimper OBI has produced in season ending tournies. We scored 58 runs in the 3 games and netted two impressive victories in the process...

Game 1 final score was 22-7 over the 11th seed Skeleton Crew. The impressive stat here is that the 22 runs were scored over 3.1 innings at the plate ... Time ran out after 3 batters in the bottom of the 4th inning. The first three innings, OBI put up 4, 9, and another 9 spot ,,, on very good hitting ... In fact, OBI was 30-39 as a team for a .769 hitting clip ...

Game 2 was a loss ,, however, OBI battled till the end in a 23-14 loss as time expired after 5 1/2 innings of play. AAA AZ was the better team this time, and deserved the win.

Game 3 was a defensive switcheroo as some folks switched up between outfield and infield. There were a few bumps defensively, but it did not matter as the offense rolled once again to the tune of 22-13 as OBI batted around twice for the fifth time in the 3 games this evening ...

There are many accolades that should be handed out for offense and defense in this 58 point effort. The one that stands out the most was J.R.'s contribution. Injured, he showed up simply to support the team but was forced into catching. At the plate, J.R. was 8-12 with a Triple, 5 runs scored, and 10 RBIs ... Thanks for being our 10th Man !!!

Following are the stats for Season 6,,, 2013 Totals,,, and an additional report breaking down 2013 by Season for each Individual Player ... I will bring a print out of these stats to Thursday's games for review also ...

Thanks to my fellow OBIers for their effort, camaraderie, beers and more in 2013 ...  Am looking forward to see what 2014 has in store for us !!!

Apparently, I need to figure out how to get a 4 page PDF onto the blog ... The first page is shown here, and I will leave it since it has the Top Seasons Totals page ... Pages 2-4 to come ...
