Sweep of Skeleton Crew Caps Season 1 with Anticipated #1 Seed

One Bad Inning finished 11-3 and atop the standings in the 2014 Season 1 Regular Season. This in part due to a more consistent offense and defense,,, but totally really about the hearts of each and every member of the team.

OBI entered Week 7 needing 2 wins to guarantee the #1 seed. And earn them they did ...

Pitching and Defense were the biggest bright spot in Game 1's 13-0 victory. Larry sparkled on the mound,,, though, this possibly may have been leftovers from a recent date with an exotic dancer (or stripper as I like to call 'em) ,,, though, this is just a theory. Excellent plays were made in both the infield and outfield as well.

Offensively, OBI pushed across 5 runs in the home half of the first three innings with newly anointed leadoff hitter Steven collecting 2 triples in each of the odd numbered innings. In the bottom of the 4th, OBI batted around scoring 8 runs with an outburst that included HRs by David and Nuta, a Larry triple, and doubles by JR, Steven, and Michael.

In Game 2, OBI laid an egg in the top of the first, then promptly gave up 10 runs to the previously scoreless Skeleton Crew. Key word,,, Gave...

Skeleton Crew's fun lasted less than a half inning as OBI pushed across 11 in the top of the second inning. The first 7 batters of the inning scored. Almost as impressive as Steven's 2-2 inning that included a leadoff Double and a line-drive HR to cap the 2nd inning scoring.

After being behind 10-0 one inning into Game 2,,, OBI worked it and outdueled SC 18-3 for an 18-13 victory. This included goose eggs for Skeleton Crew over the last 3 innings of play.

OBI should earn the only quarterfinal bye that goes with this seasons #1 seed in the upcoming Thursday, 2/27, Season 1 Tourney.  More to come as deets are available. Here are the Season 1 updated stats,,,

Midlife Crisis Outslugs OBI to Earn Week 6 Split

OBI was not able to take game 2 in week 6's matchup with Midlife Crisis. MLC simply outhit OBI to stay in the race for the #1 for the 2014 Season 1 Tourney.

However, with OBI's game 1 victory, we remain in control of our own destiny for the tourney. Worst case scenario going into the final week of Season 1's regular season is being tied for first and holding a tiebreaker over Diamondback Pools.

Victory in Game 1 was all about a fast start and a late inning spurt. OBI welcomed back Michael from illness as he started the first inning scoring with a triple to RF driving in Clint. Steven closed out the innings scoring with a 2-run double (his first of 2 in the game).

The offense stayed quiet in the next 3 innings sans Jayse's double that scored Ryan. Then, Back To Life bumper stickers paid off as OBI plated 6 more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. DC and Spillane sent Big Fly's hurtling into the night and Larry drove in in 2 runs with the last of the Steve, Matt, and Larry back-to-back-to-back Doubles penciled in the book.

Steven was an exemplary lead off hitter in Game 2 with his 4-4 performance that included a solo line drive HR. Scoring was scattered and inconsistent,,, exactly what we plan to change against Skeleton Crew next week. Two wins and the #1 seed will be ours,,, muahhahahaa....

Runnin' Fools unable to keep up with OBI

8-2 One Bad Inning ran away from 3-6-1 Runnin' Fools on Thursday night, February 6th,,, and straight into solo first place after 5 weeks in Season 1. OBI swept the doubleheader by scores of 17-15 and 15-10.

Missing were Jayse (in SoCal), Michael (head cold), and Nuta (ankle). Dean filled in as our 10th player. The 10 man lineup performed well scoring 32 runs on the night while a little birdie tells me that the defense sparkled enough in spots to bring a smile to my face.

In week 6, OBI returns to field 1 for a 8:15/9:15 battle against 7-3 Midlife Crisis. Expect a battle and let's come out hitting as a win this week keeps us in control of the #1 seed going into the final week of the regular season. A doubleheader sweep puts us 1 win from clinching it and the associated first round bye in the tourney...

No stat update this week, so I will get them caught up after this weeks games.
